Fireproof -
February 27th, 2009, 06:33 PM
This movie had me in tears. It was so good.. It is a must see. I rented it on DVD and I had no idea how touching the Movie would be.
Fighting over every little thing, Caleb and his wife, Catherine, are on the verge of signing divorce papers when Caleb's father and coworkers urge him to approach his marriage in the same way he fights vicious flames. When Caleb's father gives him the "Love Dare," a 40-day guide to religiously motivated marriage help, Caleb begins a difficult journey to reclaim his wife, and in the process, his faith in God. With several action-packed scenes, FIREPROOF uses fire metaphors in its exploration of marriage.

I saw the movie a while back.
The acting was horrible, and the subplots were unrealistic. I've seen lifetime movies with better acting, and some of it made it look like David Caruso was deserving of an Oscar.
There was error clearly implied in the scene were the guy told Caleb he had been married before. Thus, implying that divorce without fornication, allowed remarriage.
I was pretty happy about how they dealt with the Calvinistic themes. For instance, they implied the "sinner's prayer" But did not show it, which I was impressed by. I really expected them to be heavy on the stupid sinner's prayer nonsense, but they left it out.
Now criticisms aside, I was really impressed with the overall message and purpose of the movie. It made me consider my own actions towards my wife and mother, and really encouraged me to do better. I would encourage just about anyone to watch it, and consider the principals that it presents. Marriage is for life, and it requires both parties to be self-giving, rather than self-serving.
I would give the caution to beware of the errors that are subtle throughout the movie and to consider it for the overall message of strengthening marriages.

I liked the message!!! They need to make more clean movies with good messages!!! The movie was made on a low budget and I am sure many of those actors were not professionals but I looked beyond that and looked at the message it brought.
It touched me. I watched it twice and cried both times!!!

I must have to say! This is true! When my husband and I went to see Fireproof our marriage was going down hill! After we got the Love Dare and saw the movie our marriage changed for the better! Than God for that movie! Must tell all married couples to see!
